Somedays are a crawl!

By Dean P

Martin Luther King, Jr.: “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. Whatever you do, keep moving forward.”

The prophet Isaiah said it like this: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past” (Isa 43:18).

This is a huge challenge for those who are struggling with addiction. We fall into the same old trap of shame, and the way out is often a slippery slope. We tend to dwell on our mistakes over and over in our minds. As a result, we get stuck in that pit of guilt and shame.

Author John Rampton, offers the following advice: “Start making new, positive memories to replace those negative memories from the past. Spend your time with the people who make you happy, the things that bring you joy. Making new memories is better than being stuck in the past.”

Direction is far more important than speed. Take one step, maybe a crawl – no matter how seemingly insignificant or small – in the right direction, today.

Dean P, grateful believer in Jesus Christ striving for moral and sexual purity.
