A Time to surrender

In order to stay sober, you need to know when to surrender.

The Old Testament writer said,

“There is a time to search and a time to give up” (Ecclesiastes 3:6).

For most of us, surrender doesn’t come easily. Why is this? Answer: we are all control freaks. That’s the nature of sin. We want what we want when we want it. We want to call the shots. And we are unlikely to give that up until our addiction costs us something.

An anonymous writer for definingwellness.com said it like this:

“An unfortunate part of recovery is that to finally surrender, you usually need to feel enough pain. Many people need to be completely broken before they realize they need to give up in the decision-making business.”

Recovery is a two-step process.

Step 1 – Search. You’ve done that. That’s how you landed here.

Step 2 – Give up.

Recovery Step: Are you ready to surrender? Until you are, be prepared for a lifetime of pain.
